Black fringe and white fringe enjoying a day at the beach!
Magens Bay, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, is considered one of the top ten beaches in the world. It is the standard by which I judge all beaches due to it being my first exposure to tropical beaches.
Growing up in Brooklyn, a day at the beach meant taking the subway to Coney Island, squeezing a blanket in between the thousands of others on the hot sand, setting up the beach umbrella and waiting for Grandma Gussie to make the salami sandwiches, which somehow ended up tasting gritty. They were true SANDwiches! We had to then wait the proverbial hour before going in the water. Good memories.
So far, in my travels, the only other beach in the world that tops the heart-shaped Magen’s Bay is Varadero Beach in Cuba. The sand is white velvet, the water is turquoise heaven. The never-ending search continues. Meanwhile, the beaches of Costa Rica have a lot to offer and a fabulous place to call home.
